Apple gives iTunes a podcast makeover
'Well we did invent the iPod... '

Apple has released an updated version of iTunes that includes the ability to download alternative audio shows called podcasts.
According to Apple's website, version 4.9 of iTunes, the companion service to the popular iPod music player, will allow users to "select subscription options and download your favourite podcasts automatically".
The company released the updated digital music management software on Tuesday.
Podcasts, or sound files and audio content such as radio shows, have surged in popularity since late 2004. They will work on any digital MP3 player. The phenomenon allows users to create and upload their own audio programmes on the web. These programmes can be downloaded to multimedia players at a later date.
Steve Jobs, Apple's co-founder and chief executive, last month said the company would soon support podcasts.
Shares of Apple and key suppliers to the iPod on Monday fell after rival Creative Technology warned about demand, and a report forecast competition from mobile phones with built-in music players.
