The problem with giving away music for free is that in some ways it totally devalues it. It is fine for a band like Coldplay ( who also made the top 10 with a paid version of Violet Hill ) to give a song away but what about unsigned artists who should be making revenue out of their music.

Sites to propell an unsigned artist into the UK top 40 will become increasingly prominent.
Unsigned artists can have the same platform as major artists by selling their music on sites like iTunes, being chart eligible and will eventually do all of their PR themselves.

The dominance that the majors held up until around 2003 has come to and end and they have no one to blame but themselves.
