iPlayer saved my bacon this Christmas.

When my brand new hard disk recorder screwed up recording the last (double feature length) episode of Robin Hood, I was destined for the dog house with my kids.

Scanning through the listings sites on the web, there was no scheduled retransmit of the programme - cue glum faces!

Then I remembered that the iplayer was now available, and on the Mac.

Ten minutes later my aging Mac powerbook was streaming the show through an extremely dodgy BT broadband service. It ran full screen without a dropped frame for nigh on two hours whilst my wife and I enjoyed a christmas drink with friends in the next room.

Well done BBC - Smiles all round!
