I agree with the view that optimising network performance across the WAN has become an important consideration in an organisation’s IT strategy, and not just a passing trend. As a reseller and service provider, Imerja already delivers optimisation solutions across its customers' secure infrastructures, and I know from experience that they consider the improvements and benefits gained through optimisation as far outweighing the initial investment in the technology. I also believe there is tremendous value to be realised in the Software as a Service (SaaS) model in reducing costs and minimising risks, especially in the SME market. One vendor, Exinda Networks, has combined these two concepts of WAN optimisation and SaaS to simplify and centralise the WAN optimisation process. Network managers love this service because it helps them, and importantly their users, get the most out of their network without adding headcount or spending much of their IT budget.
