While Google's employees might still think they work for a tech company, the real question is what do Google's customers think. It's clear from that prism that Google is indeed a media company.

There are many supersmart techies working for The Walt Disney Company. I know a few. That does not make Disney a tech company by any stretch. You could say the same thing about Lucas Film.

People who spend money on Google are eventually going to reallocate those dollars from other media efforts (TV, direct mail, sales seminars etc). That makes Google much more of a media company.

And Microsoft? Last time I checked it still made money from Windows and Office. Those are not media. MSN is not a big profit contributor and MS actually gave up on its Sidewalk business to a media company (CitySearch). MS is definetly NOT a media company.
