as a content oriented non-profit site owner / author since 1997 i very carefully study my detailed access_log satistics and clearly see that google's search / indexing technology has provided far better, more and more accurate search results and when studyinig ( almost daily ) part of the access - to compare the keywords used and the pages found on my site, then i know in almost all cases the surfer found EXACTLY what he aimed for. thanks to precision indexing of real text rather than keywords, and meta tags ...
no other search engine - ever has provided that accuracy so far.
money is one part of life - customer satisfaction and quality a totally different story of life. Google is quality oriented and hence hard if ever to beat by any other search engine worldwide. in my access_logs Yahoo is far out of business among visitors from 100+ countries ( currently some 500'000 hits a months ).
for my very personal surfing - and i do quiet some - i use Google almost 100 % of all searches - what else ?
i get accurate results fast and always find what i was looking for ... thats all what it boils up to at the end of a search engine's use.
3-4 years ago i used different search engines - partially successful. now its only one. Google !
