The BBC has appointed former Microsoft employee, Erik Huggers, as the new director of its Future Media and Technology division.
Huggers will have responsibility for Auntie's iPlayer and other online output, along with the likes of interactive TV and mobile. He will also be in charge of the Beeb's enterprise and broadcast technology strategy and delivery.
Huggers, who joined the BBC last year and is currently group controller of the Future Media and Technology division, replaces Ashley Highfield - who left to become CEO of on-demand online media player Kangaroo, a joint venture between BBC Worldwide, Channel 4 and ITV.
Announcing the appointment, BBC director-general Mark Thompson said in a statement: "Erik has been a very strong group controller...He has shown tremendous commitment championing the iPlayer amongst many other projects.
"I look forward to him bringing his drive and determination to this new role, helping ensure the BBC is fit for the digital future."
Huggers will take up the post from 1 August when he will also join the BBC's executive board.
