The first album to be solely financed by users of music website Slicethepie is released next Monday (10 March).

Something I Might Regret by The Alps - who hail from Greenwich in London - was completely funded by Slicethepie users after the band's demos suitably impressed.

The Alps were one of the first bands to put their music on Slicethepie and have been touring Europe during the past 12 months, as well as playing on radio station XFM several times.

Daniel Heptinstall, lead singer of The Alps, said Slicethepie gives the best of both worlds as it allows bands to have control over their music as well as a direct connection with their fans.

The Alps' album was produced by Dave Allen - who has previously worked with The Cure and Depeche Mode - and its third single was released on 25 February.

Bands post their music demos on Slicethepie to be reviewed by users before fans have the chance to finance the recording of an album and take a stake in revenues generated by its sales.

The approach allows bands to retain 100 per cent copyright on their music as well as the option to sign with a traditional music label if they wish.
