YouTube is gearing up to offer its users a share of online ad revenues.

Chad Hurley, co-founder of YouTube, said the 'reward creativity' revenue-sharing offer will only apply to people who own the full copyright of the videos they upload onto the site, according to reports from the BBC.

Hurley said YouTube is still working out the technology and processes involved for both a rewards system and a video-clip advertising system.

The various features will be rolled out one by one over the next few months and "there won't be one big release", Hurley added.

YouTube's existing business model has attracted criticism of late, with one research company asserting the company will struggle to squeeze profits from its video-sharing business, primarily because its audience has grown accustomed to paying nothing for the service.
