A science journal allowing biologists to post videos online showing how to perform particular procedures has opened its doors.
The YouTube-like Journal of Visualised Experiments (JoVE) consists entirely of videos posted by biologists eager to share the fruit of their experiments, including an anxiety test for mice and a dissection of a fruit fly's ovaries.

Moshe Pritisker, scientific editor of JoVE, said learning and applying new experimental techniques is a time-consuming process and by posting videos of experiments on the net biologists can save time and resources.
Pritisker told silicon.com: "When you read [scientific] papers you might be able to understand the concepts but not reproduce the experiments."
He said "publication is the incentive" to get the reputable scientific community posting videos on the site.
The first issue of the journal is set for release on 30 November 2006.
