The success of the South Korean football team has captivated the whole world - but nobody more so than the Far East's legion of gamblers.

Betting is big business in Malaysia and Singapore and interest in the World Cup has seen online bookie BetInternet report it is trading well ahead of expectations. BetInternet said it has seen a 40 per cent increase in account holders during the past three months, many registering in these two countries.

As such it is predicting a significant increase in its profits for the year according to a report in the Financial Times. Many punters will be ruing a missed opportunity with South Korea who started the tournament at 200-1 and are now just one game from the final.
