BBCi has been awarded 'best television website' in a poll of the 100 top TV-related sites on the internet.
The judges said a lack of banner ads was a major factor in setting the service apart - suggesting the victory owes as much to its funding by licence payers as anything else.
The real winners in the poll, conducted by Web User magazine were the number of independent fan sites which managed to make an impression near the top of the list. While Channel 4 took second place, a Simpson's fan site (www.snpp.com ) managed to break up the major corporate offerings to take third spot with a tribute to all things Springfield.
