Icann boss to sue over bureaucracy

An Icann director is to sue the domain name regulator for refusing to disclose certain corporate records.

Karl Auerbach, Icann's North American elected director, is arguing that he cannot do his job properly without seeing the documents.

In December 2000, Auerbach requested access to some files. For the next nine months Icann kept these from him, before eventually asking Auerbach to sign an agreement which still only gave him access to the files at Icann's discretion. Its decision to do this was never brought before the board for discussion or vote.

This is all according to the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which is supporting Auerbach is his legal moves.

Icann's bylaws state: "Every Director shall have the right at any reasonable time to inspect and copy all books, records and documents of every kind, and to inspect the physical properties of the Corporation. The Corporation shall establish reasonable procedures to protect against the inappropriate disclosure of confidential information."
