UK retail giant GUS has bought US online credit reporting company ConsumerInfo.com for $130m.

GUS (Great Universal Stores), which owns high street catalogue chain Argos, said the company made a small profit in 2001 on sales of $50m - making it that rarest of breeds, a profitable dot-com.

The company will be incorporated into credit rating company Experian's North American arm.

Experian is wholly owned by GUS.
