Oftel's quarterly survey of internet connectivity in the UK has shown a small fall for the first time.
Since last quarter one per cent less homes in Britain are connected to the web.
The fall is from a high of 40 per cent in May to 39 per cent in August.
But the telecoms watchdog is not drawing any conclusions from the survey.
A spokesman for Oftel said: "It is too early to say from single quarter's results whether or not this represents a change in the long-term trend." According to the BBC.
Users spent an average of eight hours a week online in August.
