Vodafone has confirmed that 650 jobs are to go across its UK operations as the company shifts from acquiring new customers to maintaining existing ones.
Hardest hit will be the company's Newbury headquarters, with 215 jobs to go. The remainder will be spread around the country.
The positions are being lost at all levels, with 10 per cent lost at senior management.
A Vodafone spokeswoman said that no redundancies were anticipated in the company's global operations.
