Members of the public are free to apply for a dot-info domain name from today as the 'sunrise' period for trademark holders comes to an end.

Dot-info domain names will now be doled out on a first-come first-served basis after trademark holders were granted a one-month headstart to apply for their relevant domain.

The public launch, which was scheduled for 12 September, was delayed following last month's terrorist attacks.

Dot-info is the first of the new top level domain names to be launched since the original dot-com. Dot-biz was also due for release to the public today, but that launch date has now been postponed until 23 October.

Neulevel, the registrar responsible for dot-biz claimed that the recent terrorist attacks were still affecting original deadlines, although the California-based group is fighting a lawsuit that claims its registration process is illegal under state law.
