MGM Mirage, one of North America's biggest casino groups, is poised to set up operations for an online casino on the Isle of Man.

The Isle has recently legalised online casinos and plans to issue three operating licences in September this year, the Financial Times reports.

If MGM Mirage bids successfully, it will be the first US casino firm to set up an offshore gambling website.

The Isle of Man has received a total of 11 applications for the three licences from groups in Africa, Europe and the US.
