Start-up managed service provider Logictier has pulled out of a web hosting deal for the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, with only 275 days to go until the opening ceremony.

Mitt Romney, chief executive of the Salt Lake Organising Committee, reportedly said: "The committee is flexible enough that we will be able to rearrange our commitment. However, we are very dependent on the website and will have to find a solution quickly."
The committee announced yesterday that Logictier, a website designer and manager set up in 1999, was backing out of its deal to manage the site, which will account for the majority of ticket sales. It said Logictier is changing its business and could no longer work on SaltLake2002.com.
But the company will continue to run the site until a replacement is found.
In August, 2000, Logictier announced that it had been awarded the contract for what would be "the most heavily-trafficked site in history, with page views projected at more than 1.5 billion and about 20 billion hits".
Logictier has also announced that it has obtained a further $41m in funding.
Last February, US broadcaster NBC and its partner Quokka Sports signed up Logictier to run the NBCOlympics.com website. Last month Quokka filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
