Time Warner calls off EMI merger

Time Warner and EMI have called off their merger plans ahead of a showdown with EC officials.

The EC had expressed concerns that the deal would hand the merged company a dominant position in the European market, and was expected to demand a series a strict conditions before giving the deal the green light.

However, the news could pave the way for the go ahead for the even bigger merger of Time Warner and AOL.
