UK government issues IT Action Plan

By Suzanna Kerridge

The UK government has announced its Action Plan to get departments to modernise their public services.

Lead by Cabinet Office minister, Ian McCartney, the Service Action Team has launched the plan to cut through red tape and make people's dealings with government a lot simpler.

Public services will be modernised in five key areas, including better access to public services. Action Plan proposals include an online directory of government services, access to hotline email addresses - instead of just phone numbers and online forms - to enable citizens to notify government of changes of address.

The Action Plan is part of the government's 'Modernising Government' White Paper, which sets out ways to improve services through technology.
