Artificial labels are clouding interactive TV

By John Oates

Published: 6 July 1999 03:00 BST

The distinction between lean-back and lean-forward interactivity is an artificial distinction when it comes to interactive TV, according to a report from Merrill Lynch.

The report claims TV will be lazy-interactive or lean-back rather than the lean- forward interaction of current PCs. It also claims the onus will be on free services, especially in the UK, thanks to the impact of free Internet service providers.

The full report is available for £195 from Merrill Lynch.
