Lycos is to acquire Wired Digital for $83m in stock. The deal is part of an ongoing programme of acquisitions by Lycos, aimed at establishing the Internet directory service as a leading Web portal site.
Other companies bought this year include WhoWhere? and the Tripod online community company.
Among the Wired Digital services that Lycos plans to integrate into its portal site are the HotWired Web service and the HotBot search engine, which is used by four million users per month.
The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
