Lycos has patented its Web search technology, WiseWire. In April, the search engine firm bought the application, which it claims can learn what users want to read.

WiseWire, which is already integrated on a number of Lycos' networks, learns which documents are most popular and then organises information into categories, which it claims will make browsing easier.
