In brief: Software firm hails successful move to Web

Egghead, the US software retailer, has nearly doubled its sales following the switch to online selling.

In January the company was the first to turn its back on traditional retail and sell only over the Web. It closed down its chain of 80 stores to concentrate on ecommerce. The company credited Windows 98 with increasing the number of new visitors to its sites.
