BT has bought one of Spain's leading Internet service providers (ISP), Arrakis, for 2,200m pesetas (E13.2m).
Arrakis currently serves approximately 65,000 customers, which gives it a 15 per cent share of the Spanish ISP market. BT hopes the buyout will enable it to offer a range of communications services to the Spanish market.
In December last year, BT Tel, a Spanish subsidiary of BT, won a fixed telephony licence. The UK telco also has a 17.8 per cent stake in Airtel, Spain's second largest mobile network.
