Swisscom has confirmed it is in talks to acquire Irish fixed-line operator Eircom.
The Swiss telco said in a statement the pair have "entered into discussions" and should the negotiations yield an acquisition the news will be made public "when appropriate".
It added: "Swisscom considers various investment opportunities on a regular basis... However, there can be no certainty that an offer will in fact be made."
In the quarter ending 30 June, Eircom notched up an EBITDA of €149m (£100.3m), while Swisscom reported an EBITDA of 1.1bn Swiss Francs (£481m) for the same period.
