Virtual networks, very real revenues...

UK virtual network operator Vanco has sealed a deal to design, implement and manage and global network for verification and certification firm SGS.

The $18.5m, three-year deal will see Vanco get to grips with the challenge of connecting 650 sites across 94 countries on six continents. Currently that complicated challenge has split the SGS network across 40 different service providers. While Vanco's solution relies upon selling 'best-of-breed' solutions from a host of service providers it acts as the central point of focus and management for that network.

Stefan Schnydrig, CIO of SGS, who predicts the deal will cut costs by 32 per cent, said: "Until now we have worked with numerous different providers. Consequently we were drawn towards the asset-light VNO approach and the ability to deal with one single provider."

Allen Timpany, CEO of Vanco, said in a statement: "The SGS network is a perfect example of how Vanco’s solution provides end users with the maximum access to all technology and price options whilst receiving the highest level of service."

"This win is further evidence that our data networks are ideally suited to the distinct needs of large multi-domestic corporates."
