Vanco scoops €4.3m deal for global paint-maker

WAN to cover 280 sites in 15 countries

Global virtual network operator Vanco has scooped a €4.3m deal to design, build and manage a global WAN for paint and protective covering maker SigmaKalon.

The network will replace a frame relay system and will cover 13 countries in Europe, as well as Singapore and South Korea. It is the second sale for Vanco's six month-old MPLS Matrix service.

Jan Willemse, SigmaKalong general manager IT and board member, said: "As a result of the separation of SigmaKalon from its former parent Total, we had to find a new partner for implementing our own independent data network."

The new service will use a combination of eight networking technologies including MPLS and IPSec using leased lines and DSL. Vanco claims that its solution will increase available bandwidth at some locations by more than 800 per cent.

Under the terms of the deal, Vanco will be obliged to continue to look for ways of reducing infrastructure costs.

SigmaKalon was sold last year by oil giant Total to Boston-based fund manager Bain. The company is a leading paint supplier in several European markets and a strong contender worldwide in the provision of protective coatings, especially for marine use.
