Thousands of internet users across the country have lost their connections following a massive failure in BT's national IP network, Colossus.
Broadband and narrowband dial-up customers of BT and other ISPs have been affected.
Ian Buckley, marketing manager of ISP Zen Internet, said: "Every ADSL user in the country started going down, from 9.43 this morning. Every single one was down by 10:00. From what we can tell, all of the UK has been affected."
Full service was restored shortly before midday, a BT spokeswoman claimed. A failure in BT's Colossus IP backbone was responsible, but there is no information as yet about what caused it.
