The offering of 460,000 shares will help pay for the company's 16 per cent stake in AT&T Wireless which cost $9.8bn in November.

NTT DoCoMo is looking at the best way to finance its AT&T investment and confirmed it is considering bank loans for further funding.

DoCoMo underwriters Goldman Sachs and Nikko Salomon Smith Barney will lead the marketing of the shares beginning in the US on Friday and in Japan on Monday.

US listed shares in DoCoMo finished 3.2 per cent down at the close of business yesterday to $86.86, further pushing down the stock price which has plummeted 29 per cent since the AT&T deal.
