Oftel has altered the proposed charges for wholesale access to BT's local loop.
Published: 6 November 2000 16:52 GMT
Despite claims that the previous pricing proposals were an "absolute ceiling", the UK telecoms regulator said today that annual rental for a loop would be £118 rather than the £107 BT itself had suggested would be sufficient to cover costs. However, the connection charge has been dropped from £145 to £95.
The change in pricing was explained by an Oftel spokesman as "a modest increase in annual rental for a significant drop in connection charge that would cover a greater range of BT's costs".
The consultation period on these charges will end in December after which a final ruling will be made and will take effect in the New Year.
