BT wins online government contract

The UK government has handed a lucrative contract to BT for the development of its UK Online open government portal.

Awarded by the Cabinet Office, the contract with BT's government division and BT Syntegra is part of Tony Blair's administration promise to deliver government services online.

BT has until 2005 to set up the portal.
