Mannesmann is reportedly coming round to the idea of a takeover by Vodafone, according to the latest US reports.
According to a story in the New York Times, which quoted unnamed executives at the German telco, opposition to the deal is weakening.
The sources quoted said that after Vivendi's defection to the Vodafone alliance on Sunday, it started to become clear it will be impossible to resist the takeover.
Vodafone has until next Monday to secure a majority of Mannesmann shares.
