BT and AT&T to face EU probe

The global alliance between BT and AT&T will not be spared close scrutiny from EU regulators, according to reports.

According to Bloomberg reports, an unnamed EU official has admitted that the investigation into the $10bn venture will centre on the high proportion of transatlantic call capacity owned by the two companies.

The investigation is likely to begin next month, when the companies are expected to file their proposal with regulators on both sides of the Atlantic.

The report claims the probe will also question whether BT's dominance of the UK domestic market could harm rival global networks' chances of attracting UK customers.
