In Brief: The future looks a little brighter for Orange

Orange is gradually nearing profitability, reducing its pre-tax loss by a third during the first six months of 1998.

The company's latest results show a pre-tax loss of £49.1m compared with £73.5m for the same period last year. For the first time, the mobile operator made an operating profit of £2.2m.
