silicon.com launched the CIO50 list of the UK's top 50 most influential and innovative CIOs at an exclusive private party at the Cinnamon Club in London last week - check out the CIO50 special report to find out who made the list.

Many of those on the CIO50 attended the launch, including the CIOs of Associated Newspapers, Atkins, Avis Europe, BAA, Betfair, British Energy, Carphone Warehouse, Corus, LCH Clearnet, Norwich Union, Siemens and the UK government.

Lastminute.com CEO Ian McCaig - who started out his career as a Unix programmer - launched the CIO50 report and emphasised the importance of the CIO role and technology to most organisations today.
