BBC iPlayer gets smart on N96
Flagship Nokia device lets you stream and download...

The BBC iPlayer will be available on Nokia's flagship N96 smart phone when it's launched in the UK on 1 October.

N96 users will be the first mobile users to be able to download as well as stream their favourite Beeb programmes onto their device using the online on-demand TV service.

The N96 uses a widget - which can be downloaded from bbc.co.uk/mobile or come preloaded with the device - to allow both 3G and wireless access to the service.

The iPlayer has been rolled out onto various other devices following its initial launch on Windows XP in summer 2007, including Apple's iPhone and iPod , Nintendo Wii and Virgin Media cable. The streaming version is also available for Linux, Mac OS X and Windows Vista operating systems.

Erik Huggers, the recently appointed BBC director of future media and technology, said the BBC has worked "tirelessly" to put the iPlayer on as many platforms as possible.
