As a first gen iphone user I don't feel aggrieved at all. I knew the 3G phone was coming out when I bought but I knew (like many others) it wouldn't be £169 all in and easily unlockable! So I'm still very happy. I use it mostly as a WiFi internet access device, iPod and a phone, so 3G and GPS wouldn't make much difference to me, its the same processor and UI after all.
Try buying the new iPhone without signing up to an expensive 18 month contract!
