To be frank Apple and O2, it is not the relatively high overall price of the phone that is the issue, it is the rip-off 18 month long £35 a month contract that is the issue.

18 x £35 ==> £630. Ouch!

Buy an iPod Touch and a cheaper contracted Windows Mobile phone for much, much less, and you can also run you Tom Tom SatNav on it as well :-)
