The most ideal solution for me would be a Hybrid-Mobile/Fixed Navigation device. I.E a Bluetooth phone that can work as an independant navigation device (allbeit with a small screen) that, when acrried into the car (still in your pocket etc), can broadcact its' imagery to the larger - more user friendly screen.
Great steps need to be made in destination selection - an inteligent, voice controlled, interactive system that can ask questions back, that has more than one name for destinations.
