The first Android handset is expected to be an HTC device called Dream, which will be sold under the brand name T-Mobile G1. The device is set to go on sale in the US next month with a price-tag of around $200.

The UK may be set for a longer wait for the Android device however - according to a report in The Guardian, the G1 will be available in Blighty by Christmas.

T-Mobile is one of seven operators currently signed up to the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) - the group of technology companies working to get Android mobiles launched commercially by the second half of this year - while HTC is one of four handset-maker OHA members, along with LG, Motorola and Samsung.
