
Isle of Wight ferry to get wireless broadband

Wi-fi is to take to the waves as a cross-channel ferry company offers wireless internet access.
Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferries will offer 3.6Mbps wireless broadband access on its eight car ferries that run between the island and the mainland.

The service will first be made available to the crew but may then be made available to the 5.5 million people who travel with Wightlink each year.
The Moovera Networks ruggedised wi-fi access points link to T-Mobile's broadband network and will also feature built in GPS for real-time positioning.
Andrew Willson, Wightlink's CEO, said in a statement: "By equipping our ferries with always-on, high-speed broadband technology from Moovera Networks, we're able to ensure our captains and crew have instant access to online resources throughout the voyage. We're also laying the foundation for public wi-fi hotspot services."
