C is for The Cloud
Wireless network operator The Cloud was set up in 2003, and mainly rolls out networks for large businesses and local authorities. The company enjoyed some real success over the last year with contracts for blanket wi-fi coverage signed with nine UK cities, including the City of London and Birmingham.
The company has also made gains by offering low prices in return for long-term subscriptions.

The company and its CEO George Polk have widened the availability of wi-fi in a market where consumers and major telcos are expressing ever-increasing interest. The company has also installed wi-fi in six UK airports and in Little Chef diners for businesspeople on the move.
Reflecting the success of The Cloud, Polk appears at number 12 in our 2006 Agenda Setters list.
