One area where this is important is business VoIP networks. Guaranteed bandwidth is needed for those using time-sensitive voice services on the network, while users with less pressing requirements can be made to wait. Someone could download a large presentation file without degrading the quality of an important VoIP call.

As networks or processes are improved or increase in capacity, the QoS level can be raised, guaranteeing users even better bandwidth or access to a service.
