The European Commission has called for more input from the public and private sectors on the future costs of using a mobile while abroad.

Information Society commissioner Viviane Reding has launched a consultation into the price of roaming in Europe, saying the Commission hoped to eventually cut the cost of roaming by 60 per cent.

Reding is hoping to introduce legislation that will effectively allow consumers to use their phone abroad for the same price as in their home country.

The Commission has now opened the second phase of the consultation into roaming costs, which will last until 12 May, and is asking interested parties for their feedback on how the proposed legislation should take shape.

The EC has a website for those wishing to submit their comments, here.
