Orange SMS glow tent wows Glastonbury-goers

And it wasn't the stolen veterinary tranquilisers messing with their minds...

Mobile phone operator Orange eased the headaches of some festival goers at Glastonbury this past weekend with an innovation that makes it easy to find a tent in a crowded field of similar canvas domes.

An antenna and light fitted inside specially branded Orange 'Text Me Home' tents means that music fans returning to their tent after hours spent in front of the main stage can text their tent and activate the light - thus letting it shine out like a beacon among less high-tech temporary domiciles.

Orange took 20 of the dome tents to the annual festival in the Vale of Avalon and impressed assorted festival fans with the ease of locating the tents.

And, in keeping with a time-honoured tradition of tent-theft at Glastonbury, a spokesman for Orange admitted the company had returned with fewer tents than it had set out with.

The spokesman said Orange currently has no plans to make the tents commercially available. While it may happen "in the future" the operator plans to use the tents as competition prizes and for demonstration purposes, according to the spokesman.
