If you or your boss were cost-cutting and didn't get that navigation system/traffic alert for your car, you can now dodge the jams with your PDA.
That is, you can if you have O2's XDA II Smartphone. Trafficmaster's Traffic-i will provide a live picture of traffic conditions across the UK to the 30,000+ users who have bought the new phone since it was launched last November.
The service offers five levels of zoom so users can look at specific areas and be alerted to any delays on UK motorways and trunk roads.
The information is live from Trafficmaster's 7,500 roadside sensors, which cover 8,000 miles of the UK's main roads.
Using the system on the move is likely to be a very grey to totally black area as far as the law is concerned, but that's a problem with all navigation systems.
XDA II users can now access the system for a free 30-day trial by clicking the info/travel section and hitting Trafficmaster's top-of-the-list icon. After the 30 days, subscription is £39.99 per annum.
The offering is the first result of the five year contract signed between O2 and Trafficmaster last December. O2 sold 30,000 of its XDA IIs between their launch last November and mid-January.
