Nokia said on Wednesday that it will set up a new corporate office in New York to house its recently created Enterprise Solutions business group. Former Hewlett-Packard executive Mary McDowell, the new head of the enterprise group, will operate from this office, as will the company's chief financial officer.

Nokia said the new office will open in mid-2004 and will employ about 150 people in two years' time.

Nokia, based in Finland, employs about 6,600 people in the US, mostly in Texas and California.

"The United States is an important market for our Enterprise Solutions business group and it is important to be close to the key markets and customers of this business," Nokia CEO Jorma Ollila said in a statement.

Nokia is increasingly trying to target corporate IT and telecoms departments as well as upping its consumer offering with devices such as the N-Gage games deck.
