Orange has signed up Nokia, a long-time provider of network equipment to the company, as a three-year supplier of kit for MMS services.

The network operator - along with most of its competitors, such as T-Mobile, who has launched MMS - is counting on the rich graphics and sound messaging format to generate revenue and get people used to sophisticated non-voice services head of 3G.

Financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Nokia rival Ericsson also supplies MMS infrastructure to Orange, a France Telecom unit, in several countries.
